Alex and I went camping in Algonquin Park in July 2025
Slept through the alarms, but still up early. I left Alex to sleep in and made a coffee. I sat watching the lake for a bit, it was very calm no real breeze. I made a 2 nd coffee and started packing up. All the outside gear (bug shelter, chairs, table, ropes) went into the green canoe pack. After this I woke up Alex and we took down the tent and stowed away the sleeping bags and the arrests and tent into the yellow canoe bag. We loaded up the canoe and launched for the ride back to Achray. I wanted to find the elusive 1 st campsite, but couldn’t locate it from the water, once we arrived at the beach at the end of the south shore of Grand Lake we made back for Achray. The ride wasn’t more than 20 minutes. The water was still quite calm with a little breeze now.
At shore I got the van from the parking lot and we pack it up and moved the canoe back to the area where Algonquin Bound Outfitters leave them for us, which is still on the beach but closer to the Achray office/store. The drive out was uneventful, we called Erin near the East Gate where there is a little Cell Service and then headed for home, stopping in Bells Corners for an early lunch (McDonalds)… I had missed the stop for arnprior where we had originally planned to stop. We arrived home around noon.
We enjoyed the trip, Erin said that there had been a thunderstorm/tornado alert for algonquin on Thursday while we were there… which explains the storm we weathered put in the morning that day. The weather was hot the first day but cool the rest of the time. We really enjoyed it and had everything we needed for the trip, the only thing I might pack next time is my Sony SW/FM,multiband radio. My little emergency radio only picked up AM stations in the evening and I know the Sony would have picked up much more… it is a better radio. So, looking forward to our next trip.
